On November 4th and 5th, there was a 2-day celebration to commemorate the oldest Serbian Orthodox Church in eastern Canada. On Saturday morning a large number of parishioners attended a memorial service in the church. At this service, they prayed for their departed family members as well as for the souls of the departed parishioners and women in the “kolo sestara.” Then, a group of parishioners visited the site where the first church was built and consecrated in 1917. The annual Church picnic was held on September 17, 2017, following the Holy Liturgy, at the Holy Trinity grounds in Binbrook. Father Voja blessed the meal and gathering and thanked everyone who came to attend the year’s final picnic. He thanked the Serbian Sisters Circle and the choir for their help and special thanks was given to those who helped prepare the bulls over the last two days. We are happy to report on our church ball, which was a wonderful evening and roaring success! Our parish was pleased to hold this traditional event, which was the 20th annual ball hosted by the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church on Barton St in Hamilton, Ontario. On Sunday December 18, the parish at St. Nicholas celebrated their church slava. The Holy Hierarchical Liturgy was served by the bishop of Canada, Dr. Mitrophan along with the following clergy: V.Rev. Steva Stojesavljevic, V. Rev. Djuro Samac, and V. Rev. Voja Pavlovic. Choir Stevan Mokranjac responded to the Holy Liturgy directed by sister Desa Gusu. By the grace of God, we are blessed to report on another successful Orthodox Retreat. This is the 21st retreat hosted by the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church on Barton St in Hamilton, Ontario. There were approximately 180 faithful in attendance from Orthodox communities across Southern and Southwestern Ontario. The Serbian Sisters Circle of St. Nicholas on Barton Street celebrated their slava, The Nativity of the Theotokos, today on Sunday September 25.
